Following the 2014 election, Republicans control both chambers of the legislature in 31 states. States with Republican legislatures include traditional swing states Ohio and Florida and emerging Midwestern Republican targets Wisconsin and Michigan, all of which Romney lost in 2012.
31 states have Republican lieutenant governors. In Wisconsin, rising star Rebecca Kleefisch serves as lieutenant governor, winning three elections in four years with Governor Scott Walker. In Nevada, Mark Hutchison defeated Harry Reid’s hand-picked candidate to serve as lieutenant governor.
